Choosing to Include in Middle School

Choosing to Include in Middle School

Chassity and Granville are Special Olympics Youth Leaders from Virginia, USA who are leading a Youth Innovation Project aimed at expanding the Special Olympics mission to middle schools and getting students excited about inclusion at an early age. Through this project, Chassity and Granville will organize a community Unified Basketball tournament with high school and middle school athletes to compete against local law enforcement to gather excitement and raise awareness. Chassity and Granville plan to then establish a bocce and bowling team combining middle school and high school club members to increase interest and create friendships before students enter high school.

Over the course of nine months, Chassity and Granville hope to engage 100 people in their project and create a new Unified School. To Chassity and Granville, being a part of the Unified Generation means choosing to embrace and celebrate differences while learning from each other and making great relationships. Chassity and Granville are inspiring the Unified Generation to choose to include from an early age and expand the mission of inclusion to as many people as they can.
