Closer Than Ever in Argentina
Catalina and Cintia Carla are Special Olympics Youth Leaders from Argentina who will lead a Youth Innovation Project to virtually engage fellow Youth Leaders and Special Olympics athletes during the time of the COVID-19 pandemic. Catalina and Cintia Carla plan to accomplish this by hosting biweekly meetings that focus on topics such as physical care, emotional care, how to prepare to return to the athletic scene, and a range of recreational activities in order to promote social wellbeing. The Youth Leaders are particularly motivated by the lack of recreational and stimulating activities available during this time of crisis. As Catalina and Cintia Carla work towards constructing a Unified Generation in Argentina, one of their main goals is to stay aligned with is the broader agenda of increasing quality education for those with intellectual disabilities as well as reducing inequality among young people. By engaging and training new Youth Leaders through this project, they know that they are one step closer to being reaching this goal.
Over the course of 3 months, Catalina and Cintia Carla hope to recruit around 100 new Youth Leaders in this virtual format. Participants will be trained and encouraged to conduct similar projects in their own localities and communities. Towards the end of the project, the Youth Leaders plan to create a blog to share health care tips and leadership strategies. Through their project, Catalina and Cintia Carla are creating a major difference and generating a wave of inspiration.
