Making a Difference on the Court

Haoran is a Special Olympics Youth Leader in Shanghai, China leading a Youth Innovation Project to grow Unified Schools in his community. Through his project, Haoran will work with teachers and students at Jingan Special Education School and Shanghai Foreign Language School to grow Unified basketball by establishing a local basketball studio and recruiting from both schools to participate. Through his leadership, Haoran will ensure that all participants have opportunities to have fun playing basketball and also develop skills and friendships with a high quality Unified Sports experience.

 

She was involved in the 2018 Special Olympics Global Unified Youth Exchange, and has been involved with Special Olympics in various capacities. Through this project, she hopes to establish new Unified Schools and expand the current programs that are already in place.

 

Haoran is passionate about supporting students with and without intellectual disabilities and expanding the programs and opportunities for inclusion available for them. With this project, she hopes that more students her age will come to appreciate the opportunities that they have to create a more positive and inclusive world. Haoran believes that “sports have the power to unite and change the world” and her intention is to build trust and friendship between all participants and give them opportunities to establish confidence and leadership skills. With Haoran’s leadership, the Unified Generation is growing in China and around the world.
