Recruiting Youth Leaders in Senegal

Aissatou was named one of the Innovators of the Week! Click here to learn more about their story and the impact they are making in their community.

Khady and Aissatou are Special Olympics Youth Leaders from Senegal who participated in the 2019 Global Youth Leadership Summit. They will lead a Youth Innovation Project to recruit and engage new Youth Leaders with and without intellectual disabilities in Special Olympics Senegal programs. Young people of all abilities will be empowered to become leaders in their schools and communities by volunteering with Special Olympics.

Over the course of six months, Khady and Aissatou will engage and train 50 Youth Leaders. They will also expand programming in two Unified Schools to create two Unified Champion Schools. Unified Champion Schools are schools that have all three of the following: inclusive sports, inclusive youth leadership opportunities, and whole school engagement. By training new Youth Leaders and sharing their knowledge of Special Olympics, Khady and Aissatou are helping others join the Unified Generation and are spreading the message of inclusion throughout Senegal.
