Sport Studies for Inclusion in Bosnia and Herzegovina
Ana is a Special Olympics Youth Leader from Bosnia and Herzegovina who is creating a sports class for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Three times a week, Ana will work with students to improve physical skills and knowledge of football and volleyball. Through the weekly classes, participants will practice running, jumping, and throwing to prepare for their first competition. Once time for competition, Ana will work on creating Unified teams so individuals with and without intellectual disabilities can work together to demonstrate the power of inclusion.
As a member of the Unified Generation, Ana believes that every young person be given the opportunity to demonstrate their potential, both on and off the field. Ana is excited to see how her sports class influences her community’s attitude toward individuals with disabilities. Through leading this project, Ana has seen how it has created new opportunities for those with intellectual disabilities and cannot wait to see the outcomes of her project.
