Unified Basketball in Korea
Dohyeong and Jaeyeon are Special Olympics Youth Leaders from Korea leading a Youth Innovation Project to launch a Unified basketball club in their community. In September 2018, Dohyeong and Jaeyeon participated in the Special Olympics Global Youth Leadership Forum in Baku, Azerbaijan and learned how to enhance the impact of their youth leadership and establish a plan to execute their project at home in Korea.
Dohyeong and Jaeyeon are committed to creating a Unified basketball club so that youth in their community can experience the fun and power of inclusive sport. Once Dohyeong and Jaeyeon have created their Unified basketball club, they will organize basketball training for local youth with and without intellectual disabilities. To Dohyeong and Jaeyeon, Unified Sports are the embodiment of inclusion and they are passionate about bringing the experience of real inclusion to as many of their peers as they can.
In the coming months, Dohyeong and Jaeyeon will begin hosting basketball training sessions along with a seminar on the concepts of Unified Sports. In addition to the basketball skill development of the training sessions, the seminar will provide an opportunity to learn more about intellectual disabilities and the values of Unified Sports. Through the power of inclusive sport and youth leadership, Dohyeong and Jaeyeon will help grow the Unified Generation all throughout Korea and beyond.
