Youth Activation Committees in Rwanda
Mika and Fabrice are Special Olympics Youth Leaders from Rwanda who will lead a Youth Innovation Project to empower youth with and without intellectual disabilities by creating Special Olympics Youth Activation Committees in schools. Mika and Fabrice will collaborate with school administrators to create clubs and committees that will increase the number of Youth Leaders involved in the Special Olympics movement. Students at each school will have the opportunity to be involved in art, drama, sports, debate, and public speaking. In October 2019, Mika and Fabrice participated in the Special Olympics Africa Regional Youth Leadership Summit in Nairobi, Kenya and learned how the importance of youth leadership and engagement can lead to a stronger Unified Generation.
Over the course of a year, Mika and Fabrice will engage fifty new Youth Leaders with and without intellectual disabilities and create ten new Unified Schools. At the end of their project, Mika and Fabrice will hold a closing ceremony to celebrate each of the participating schools and present them with a certificate to praise their dedication to inclusion. By developing Youth Activation Committees in schools, Mika and Fabrice are inspiring others to join the Unified Generation and empowering them to be actors of inclusion.
